Event Details

Reach beyond the stars with Laniakea, a cosmic saga named after the supercluster home to the Milky Way and 100,000 other galaxies. A three-act intergalactic epic projected onto Barangaroo House set to an original symphonic score, Laniakea explores how nature big and small share the same visual pattern. Ever notice that a hurricane’s eye resembles a swirling galaxy? Or how underground magma flows like veins, or an ocean stream?

Laniakea’s artist David Moraton has always seen the world as interconnected. As someone with synaesthesia, he processes colours simultaneously as sound.

As Laniakea zooms out from Earth (Act I), we enter Moraton’s own world as he translates the score into painterly strokes of colour that linger – moments of pure creativity that end up essential ingredients of Act III’s supercluster.
