Event Details

Get ready for a dancefloor experience for the ages, as iconic British house music architect A Guy Called Gerald rocks the Sydney Opera House Studio with three decades of game-changing beats from his incredible history with electro, rave, jungle, and everything in between.

A cutting edge innovator, Manchester-born Gerald Simpson kickstarted the revolution in British rave music when he brought his street-honed sounds – influenced by reggae, jazz-funk and electro – to the legendary Hacienda night club in the late ’80s, and changed the scene forever with the UK’s first acid house single, 1988’s classic “Voodoo Ray”, and the club smash “Pacific State”, forged with his original band 808 State.

Simpson lead the drum’n’bass movement, releasing what many regard as its greatest album – 1995’s Black Secret Technology, which Select said “will one day have him listed among Sun Ra/Lee Perry/George Clinton cosmic clubhouse of interstellar visionaries” – and continues to push the envelope with his ever-evolving fusion of electronic dance genres.
