Anaiis

Born in Toulouse, raised between Dublin, Dakar, Oakland, and now rooted in London, anaiis' footholds have shaped a perspective founded in movement, flux, community and personal transformation. After her debut single 'Nina' in 2018, anaiis released this is no longer a dream in 2021, featuring Chronixx, Sjava and Topaz Jones, with art direction by Ib Kamara and Rafael Pavarotti. She went on to support Daniel Caesar on his UK tour, share stages with Erykah Badu and Nick Hakim, headline a sold-out Barbican show, and speak at TEDxLondonWomen at the Southbank Centre. In 2025, she toured the US with Mereba and appeared at SXSW London.

With special guest RIAH.

Resisting easy categorisation, experimental R&B French-Senegalese musician anaiis offers a night of sonic grace and introspection at the White Bay Power Station, joined by West Sydney R&B powerhouse RIAH.

Part of Biennale of Sydney's Art After Dark series, it's one of three Friday nights of innovative, left-of-centre music among the ongoing Biennale exhibition and outdoor food offerings, presented by Vivid Sydney.

Based in London, anaiis (her lower-case name in honour of theorist bell hooks) blends the personal and political in her music, pulling from rich textures across R&B, soul and alternative genres to make them entirely her own.

Breaking through with 'Nina' in 2018, her most recent album Devotion & the Black Divine is a mythic self-portrait through motherhood, grief and reclaimed identity.

Supporting anaiis is RIAH, whose velvety vocals weave stories of identity, connection and growth, sharped by her Tongan, Fijian, Aboriginal and Italian heritage.

After more Art After Dark gigs? Vivid Sydney also presents New York ambient techno trio Purelink on Friday 29 May, and a free multi-stage party on Friday 12 June, featuring international and Australian innovators.
