Alongside the lofty likes of Robert Hood, Carl Craig and Joey Beltram, the prolific DJ, producer and composer Jeff Mills is one of the architects of American techno, a Detroit pioneer whose stripped-down, industrial sets and mixes helped shape the sound of modern dance music as we know it. For the first time in almost 25 years, Mills returns to Sydney for an Australian exclusive live performance to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his iconic Liquid Room Mix.

A founding member of Detroit institution Underground Resistance, Mills – nicknamed “The Wizard” – defined the sound of Motor City alongside Mike Banks and Robert Hood, creating such classics as “The Punisher” and “The Seawolf” before relocating to New York for a residency at famed nightclub Limelight and a recording contract with noted German label Tresor.

Recorded in 1995 at Tokyo nightclub Liquidroom, Mills’s epic three-hour Live At The Liquid Room mix would become legendary, marking a turning point in techno from which the genre would never look back. Although released by Sony on CD and cassette at the time, the set has never been available digitally until now. To celebrate, Mills has been touring the world, playing shows at London’s Fabric, Berlin’s RSO, and of course, Tokyo’s Liquidroom. Now, it’s Sydney’s turn to experience one of techno’s most iconic live mixes – from the man who made it all happen.
