This year’s magical journey starts at the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House with huge Siamese fighting fish in Splendens, a big, joyful and spectacular welcome to the Vivid Light Walk 2015. Head along East Circular Quay and you’ll be drawn to a bright red, pulsating heart, The Heart of the City. Walk into a new-look world of Light Origami at the AMP Forecourt, while the Lucky Country bounces to life in the Museum of Sydney’s floating glass cube.
Head towards The Rocks and First Fleet Park for BeatDice, where you can be the DJ using a series of cubes that lights up and grooves when re-arranged. Affinity uses Intel Galileo boards to reproduce the neurons and synapses that make our brains work. Further along, a giant Rococo pig called Entitle is yet another one of Vivid 2015’s ‘big things’ to make a statement.
Cadmans Cottage is the centre of attention for INTER/Play, the Light Walk’s biggest multi-player experience. In Kendall Lane, a tiny cobblestone laneway in The Rocks, The Dresses appear as a ghostly apparition created by fibre-optics while the Argyle Cut is the dramatic setting for Life Story created by BBC Earth. The epic story of life unfolds in front of your eyes through amazing images of the natural world.
Heading back towards the harbour foreshore, a large ornate ‘eye’ watches the city from on high; change the mood of Geometric Eye from happy to alert, sparkling to excited. Towering nearby is a lovable crochet doll with extra-long arms and a body made from both cotton rope and metres of LED light-rope. Hug Dolly for the perfect selfie. Then head to Dawes Point for another photo opportunity at You Are Here, brought to Vivid by Indeed.com. The Philips Tree of Light beckons with more than 5,000 twinkling LED lights.
