Robot Spaceland at Darling Harbour

For Vivid Sydney 2019, Darling Harbour has a space-age reboot with Light, Music and Ideas to entertain and inspire visitors of all ages and abilities. Activate a brighter future where sentient robots help us regenerate the Earth and make life on other planets of our galaxy possible.

Around Cockle Bay, mind-boggling electro-automotive super-bots have been sent to sow the seeds of a greener tomorrow. Epic in scale, the light and sound spectacle Robot SPACELand is built around a central 16m high unit, the Ecobot. After creating itself from crushed cars, it continues its endless duties crushing cars and extruding the building blocks of a new society.

Vivid Sydney’s inclusive play space Tumbalong Lights is back with the support of Access & Inclusion Partner Cushman & Wakefield. Inspired by the next frontier, playSPACE brings together super-scale installations that give intrepid explorers an opportunity to walk Under the Milky Way, play with SpaceBalls, interact with an Alien Visitor, share different perspectives with See What I See and travel To the Moon and Back in a wheelchair moon buggy. Low-sensory sessions are catered for too.

Step inside the BLACKLIGHT Dessert Lab where the lines between food, art and architecture are deliciously blurred. Each night during the festival, everyone with a sweet-tooth can indulge in an ultraviolet illuminated dessert experience featuring collaborations with some of the most innovative minds in food from Darling Square.

Come and enjoy the mesmerising kinetic movement of the swirling Florescentia's dancing and shimmering in Darling Quarter. From the Latin word for blossoming, Florescentia is inspired by the phenomena of photosynthesis. Opening and closing gracefully as they spin, the kinetic modules encapsulate the delicate nuances of nature. This other worldly display of colour and light is reminiscent of a beautiful ballet as flowers unfurl and retract.

See sharks as you’ve never seen them in this fiery yet poignant film projected on the Australian National Maritime Museum’s huge rooftop. Follow the shark’s journey through the oceans in three chapters: hunting, desire and renascence. On Sharks takes you inside the mind of a shark and asks us to reconsider sharks as prey, not just as predators.

The phenomenal Robot SPACELand will be viewable every night throughout Vivid Sydney (24 May – 15 June). On Friday and Saturday nights during the festival, crowd-pleasing Fireworks display above Cockle Bay will be incorporated into Robot SPACELand’s jaw dropping spectacle.
