George Xylouris and Jim White reunite for their third album, 2018’s Mother. Serendipitous musical collaborators for over two decades, their unique brand of raucous folk music will fill the intimate Utzon Room in this one off, special performance.
Musical luminary White honed his rhythms on breakthrough albums such as Cat Power’s MoonPix, and as the drummer of Dirty Three, while Xylouris is a part of a vibrant living tradition spanning many generations, learning Cretan lute at his father’s knee and later popularizing Greek music in his own right.
Together this visionary duo combine free-jazz, avant-rock and ages-old Greek folk traditions that saw their 2014 debut album Goats top the Billboard World Music chart. Two years later, they showed how far their horizons could reach on 2016’s expansive Black Peak, named after a mountain top in Crete. Their exploratory instincts and fluid chemistry drive them further on latest release Mother named to denote “new life”.
Be transported and invigorated in equal measure, by the unique sounds of Xylouris White in the impressive surrounds of The Utzon Room.
