It’s sure to be one of the most talked-about performances this year: cult Sydney artist xmunashe is bringing his intimate show to Vivid LIVE for his hotly anticipated Sydney Opera House debut.
A gifted multi-instrumentalist, singer and self-taught producer, the Botswana-born, Perth-raised artist seemed to emerge from nowhere in 2023, taking Sydney by storm with a string of performances that have been the talk of the city’s tastemakers. From a series of underground music and art happenings hosted in his own studio, to shows at Phoenix Central park and underground performances across the nation, xmunashe – alongside his multi-instrumental collaborators Jonti and Joshuah – has captivated audiences with his free-form sonic spontaneity. Their performances exude the raw, smoky ambiance of an old-school jazz night; the band will often swap instruments, improvising in sync with the energy of the crowd. Throughout it all, xmunashe effortlessly navigates the soundscape with his uniquely poetic lyricism.
