Event Details

It’s been a whirlwind few years for Tkay Maidza. Since her head-turning teenage debut, ‘Brontosaurus’, the Zimbabwe-born, Australian-raised singer and rapper has dropped a top-20 album, won an ARIA, and unleashed the fire Last Year Was Weird mixtapes, while collaborating with the likes of Killer Mike, Danny L Harle, JPEGMafia, Troye Sivan, Yung Baby Tate and Duckwrth. Now, hot off her opening slot for superstar Billie Eilish’s world tour, Maidza is coming back to Australia to make her long-awaited Sydney Opera House debut – and play her first Sydney headline show since 2018.

Inspired by her heroes Nicki Minaj and Santigold, Maidza’s bouncy, bratty hip-hop and future-facing RnB drew comparisons to everyone from M.I.A. to Missy Elliott and Doja Cat, but the firecracker sound of bangers like 'Shook, '24K' and 'Cashmere' is all her own. With her live performances currently electrifying stadiums across the world, Maidza is primed for superstardom. Consider Vivid LIVE her coronation.

For this one night only performance in the Joan Sutherland Theatre, Tkay Maidza is joined by emerging Australian nu-soul star Maina Doe, who makes her Sydney Opera House live debut following her mesmerising performance as part of the Liminal music film series in 2021. Emerging from an exciting new generation of Sydney performers, the Indonesian-born singer-songwriter infuses her love of old-school RnB, digital-era hip-hop, and cutting-edge soul with an evocative sense of melody – a sound that has quickly made her one of the most exciting young performers on the scene.

Sure to be a night of powerful, provocative hip-hop and soul from two of the best in the game.
