The Delta Riggs "Make Boogie Great Again" @ Potts Point Hotel
Teetering between shambolic and refined, The Delta Riggs hailing from Melbourne have established themselves as an unofficial hallmark live event among the Australian Indie scene. Since popular emergence with the breakthrough release of their second LP Dipz Zebazios in 2014 receiving widespread critical acclaim and selected by Triple J for their coveted Feature Album weekly spot, the band went on to receive Rolling Stones breakout best live artist award, tour and be championed by artists such as Primal Scream & Kasabian.
‘Leś Riggs’ as their loyal cult like fan base have come to refer to them were also handpicked for the 2015 Foo Fighters stadium tour of Australia off the back of a raucous and impressive set in LA. The band running off fumes due to their extensive touring off the back of SxSw caught the attention of many impressionable circles that evening, which have gone on to establish solid inroads in the US market through syncs on a dazzling number of American television dramas from Californication to Vampire Diaries.
In the US, as at home The Riggs maintain an almost counter culture like mystery, regularly played on the radio and on television but have somehow avoided the stigma and saturation of a highly successful band. In other words The Riggs may not be a household name in every circle but are quite possibly an unbeknown household musical presence. Although the gritty and sweat drenched live performances have evolved through years of US, European and Australian touring into an exciting and engaging real life performance, the Riggs still maintain a danger and tightrope style edge to every show and none are ever alike. Front man Elliott Hammond who himself has a colourful and large list of musical achievements outside of the Riggs is an unbelievably versatile and odd character. Filled out by bandleader And Bass Player Michael Tramonte, Guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Jesse Pattinson and lead guitarist, engineer and Producer in his own right Alex ‘Rudi’ Markwell a Delta Riggs live show is never without drama but is fundamentally based on musicality and seeing a show it is obvious to see why they are who they are.
These boys can play. They didn’t come for the Sandwich Platter.
