Access and Inclusion
Settle in for an incredible night of free floating new jazz, cutting-edge beats and eclectic musical improv as two of Australia’s most exciting and progressive ensembles turn the Sydney Opera House Utzon Room inside out.
Described as a “post-everything improv” group, Australian Music Prize-nominated Sydney outfit Tangents defy easy categorisation, moving between electronic, free jazz, rock and new musical forms with freewheeling abandon. Their distinctive, unpredictable sound brought them to esteemed Brooklyn label Temporary Residence (home to Four Tet, Mogwai and William Basinski), and their critically acclaimed 2018 album New Bodies was described by Pitchfork as a record of “endless ideas”. Tangents will launch their 2021 double LP, Timeslips & Chimeras, for Vivid LIVE.
GODTET is the brainchild of Godriguez, an in-demand producer, multi-instrumentalist and beat maker renowned for his stellar production on Sampa The Great’s The Great Mixtape. Bringing together some of the most exciting musicians of Sydney’s new generation, the free jazz band issued a remarkable, improvised trilogy of GODTET LPs, earning fans from globetrotting tastemaker Gilles Peterson through to Melbourne contemporaries Hiatus Kaiyote. In 2020, they performed as part of the Sydney Opera House’s Digital Season with a cosmically cool reimagining of John Coltrane’s Giant Steps.
