Picnic Touring and Events presents HER, a reflection of their dedication to the support of women in music. Committed to curating all-female line-ups, Picnic has been a major driving force behind the inclusion of women in Sydney’s electronic music scene. In January this year they finally put a name to this commitment with their first HER party featuring German DJ Lena Willikens. This time they’ll be keeping it local. Well, sort of.
All the way from Melbourne, Pjenné and Millú.
Pjenné is a versatile purveyor of vibe matched only by those who have been buying and playing records for years. With a record collection that boasts an exquisite taste for blue eyed soul, modal, spiritual jazz and the uplifting yet hedonistic roots of disco and house, you have a fine selector. All-embracing when it comes to style, she finds harmony in diversity which is reflected in regular slots across Melbourne’s favourite spots such as Lost Weekend, Wax’o Paradiso, Daydreams and Lucid. Pjenné has also supported the likes of international selectors such as Jack J and Bradley Zero.
She’ll be playing alongside fellow DJ Millú whose deep cache of obscure jams, esoteric rhythms and club cuts forego conventional genre standards. With a distinct ability to recontextualise our perception of where records should be played, her selections have provided her with regular shows on Triple R, as well as appearances at Golden Plains Music Festival, Melbourne’s Wax’o Paradiso, Club D’erange, Lost Weekend and Daydreams. Frequent stints abroad see her record bag constantly evolving as she seeks out and brings home her unique interpretation of the world’s music.
Just as likely to be soundtracking your yum cha as they are to be moving a dance floor, these accomplished Melbourne DJs make their debut Sydney appearance for VIVID 2017.
