Drawing inspiration from the strong resilient women in her community, proud Darumbal Murri and Tongan RnB artist Mi-Kaisha Masella represents an artfully melted dichotomy of sweet and deadly. Mi-Kaisha’s soulful voice is pure honey, but don’t let that fool you. Her truth-telling lyrics drive home hard-hitting often political messages about being a young blak woman in Australia.
Named 2019 NAIDOC Week’s Youth of the Year, Mi-Kaisha is an advocate for young Indigenous voices in decision making and the empowerment of others as the ‘architects of their own destinies’. This social entrepreneur and political activist has a national reach and is regularly featured on SBS, ABC and NITV where she highlights contemporary issues impacting young Aboriginal people.
Now, hear her use the medium of song to share strength and hope while celebrating ‘the unbreakable, ancient connections we have with each other and with our culture’.
“Mi-Kaisha’s voice is just like silk.” – triple j
“Energetic, empowered and undeniably talented... Mi-Kaisha Masella uses music as a storytelling platform.” – SBS
