Event Details

Two towering acts bring their stories to the Tumbalong Nights stage. Mama Kin Spender (MKS) sounds a rattle and hum call from across the desert plains in a journey through grief, rage, reflection and arrival. Hear their irrepressible rhythms buoyed by a 24 strong choir of Inner West Voices. Rising RnB soul-pop star Kee’ahn supports, effortlessly weaving lush melodies with lyrics of heartbreak and healing.

An ARIA-nominated duo of mischief-makers, MKS is Mama Kin (aka Danielle Caruana), a storyteller and dream weaver with a penchant for soul-baring; and Dingo Spender, a producer and songman with remarkable instrumental dexterity. Exploring life’s joys, bruises, stretch marks and scars, MKS possess a lyrical depth that pushes us to our far-flung edges.

These long-time friends and collaborators combine drums, percussion and blistering guitar with lightning arrangements underpinned by harmonies that shimmer and smoulder. Their connection is primal, breathing soul and vitality into every space they inhabit. From the songwriting craft to the beats and together with a beaming choir of 24 Inner West Voices, MKS will have you clutching at your chest while stomping and howling.

Ahead of MKS, rising RnB soup-pop star Kee’ahn supports, bringing her rich vocals and hopeful lyrics that champion the idea that finding strength in our struggles.

Kee'ahn is a proud Kuku Yalanji, Jirrbal, Zenadth Kes song woman who recently ventured from her Far North QLD to pursue her dream in the Kulin Nation (Melbourne, Australia). With a name coming from the Wik people of Cape York meaning to dance, to sing, to play, Kee’ahn aims to honour her name and Ancestors through her soulful music. “As a First Nations woman, my connection to music is strong because of my connection to my culture. I come from a long line of disruptors. My matriarchs were told to quieten their voices, but our stories were always shared and heard. My voice and my music allow me to connect to my Ancestors and to my purpose”. Hear her encourage us to reflect, reinvent, and rejoice in all of our own individual healing journeys.

“…learn how such tiny seeds can blossom into better things indeed, then take the time to find that in your own life too. Kee’ahn’s music can give you the space to do that, and there’s nothing else like it.” – PileRats
