When Jonti last performed at Vivid LIVE in 2017, he drove a sold-out Sydney Opera House crowd into a frenzy with his delirious recreation of The Avalanches’ classic, 'Since I Left You'. This year, the Johannesburg-born, Sydney-based producer and multi-instrumentalist makes his long-awaited return, bringing an all-new performance – and a preview of his highly anticipated album, The Moonblades – to the Drama Theatre for one night only.
A genre-defying musician and producer, Jonti emerged as a solo artist in 2011 with his debut album Twirligigs, dazzling listeners with his eclectic mix of beats, samples and psychedelic soundscapes. He soon became a touring member of The Avalanches, appearing on their feverishly anticipated 2016 album, Wildflowers. In 2017, Jonti collaborated with R&B star Steve Lacy, and released his second album Tokorats, a sonic odyssey of stacked samples, live instruments and dreamy vocals that featured Kirin J Callinan, Goyte and Sampa The Great.
Inspired in part by classic movies like The Warriors and The Wanderers, Jonti’s forthcoming album The Moonblades is a journey through sonic worlds of electronic and orchestral wonder.
