Bella Fiorentino live at Venue 505 performing her original music led by her soulful vocals, her guitar and saxophone. Playing alongside Yiss Mill, the man with a symbol and cajon set up, and Nic Malouf, the guitarist mastermind and singer-songwriter of Shirley Crescent.
These three will be serenading you with some experimental soul music influenced by blues and with a grunge to it.
Supported by Billsbry and resident DJ Juzzlikedat
Bella will be raising money for Campus Refugee Action Collective.
The Campus Refugee Action Collective is a group of Sydney University students that meet regularly to fight for refugee rights, including an end to detention. Kids are off Nauru thanks to the campaign. With more pressure we can force the government to end the cruelty and bring the hundreds of other refugees on Manus and Nauru to safety.
"Bella Fiorentino is the kind of woman that turns up at a party when you are on your way to bed; She convinces you to stay for one more drink and then you end up dancing in a field at dawn two days later with five new friends that have somehow been swept along in her magic.
She will argue that she is, in fact, a little shy, her pixie-like frame sometimes hidden behind her guitar — she speaks kindly and thoughtfully - but to hear her sing is to understand contradiction. It is wild and raw — a true gypsy sister." Charlie Dugdale
Billsbry is the musical alias of Charlie Fisher, a Sydney based musician. Billsbry's sound can best be described as a blend of psychedelic ambient blues using a loop pedal to build his original songs through layering.
DJ JUZZLIKEDAT grew up in a musical family. From a young age he taught himself to play bass and drums. At 14 years old he was a keen collector of wax and could only afford one turntable and a mixer. Witnessing the evolution of Hip Hop, his passion for Funk and Jazz inspired him to travel through the many era’s of black music from the late 60's to more recent digital sounds. Today Juzzlikedat sells records from his Funky hair salon in Surry Hills ‘Le Garage’, trying to cover the different eras of the Soul Jazz Funk and Hip Hop but also the Afrobeat and Brazilian sounds from the 70's and 80's. As a DJ and member of the Groove Dealers collective, he has been spinning records in Sydney for over 10 years and played at mad parties and festivals like ‘Playground Weekender’ and ‘Peats Ridge Festival’ further featuring for Mama Feel Good Funk Collective, Soul of Sydney, Syd Def Jam and Funkdafied events. During this time he has supported international artists such as Roy Ayers, Omar, Sarah Love, John Morales, Nickodemus, Doris, Oddisee and Dj Krush to name a few. He also had a weekly show mixing an hour pure afro grooves on Skid Row Radio called "The Warm Up Show".You can catch him on the 2 turntables weekly at some of Sydney’s funkiest bars namely Café Lounge, Play Bar, Chingalings, Grain Bar, Oxford Art Factory, Martini Bar, Good God, newport Arms, Newtown Hotel and many more.
