Event Details

Visionary musician and artist Brian Eno — known for producing David Bowie, U2, Talking Heads, among many others; pioneering the genre of ambient music; and curating the very first Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House in 2009 — reveals his creative processes in the groundbreaking generative documentary Eno. Each session will offer audiences a unique one-off version of the film, with director Gary Hustwit creating the film in real time, live on stage.

This special screening is followed by a Q&A with artist and filmmaker Gary Hustwit.

Following the World Premiere at Sundance Film Festival, filmmaker and visual artist Gary Hustwit brings the first career-spanning documentary about visionary musician and artist Brian Eno to Australian shores. This innovative bio-doc also elevates the documentary form into an evergreen, algorithmic performance.

Hustwit and creative technologist Brendan Dawes have developed a bespoke generative software designed to sequence scenes and create transitions out of Hustwit’s original interviews with Eno, and Eno’s rich archive of hundreds of hours of never-before-seen footage, and unreleased music.

Each screening of Eno is unique. Audiences will witness the real-time creation of the film with director Gary Hustwit positioned live on stage. Each screening will present Eno with different scenes, order, music, with the film created to be experienced live.

The generative and infinitely iterative quality of Eno poetically resonates with the artist’s own creative practice, his methods of using technology to compose music, and his endless deep dive into the mercurial essence of creativity.

This film is unclassified and strictly for audiences aged 18+
