This edition of Tumbalong Nights brings together Donny Benét's Italo-Aus disco vibes supported by sister-act Clews whose anthemic indie-pop ballads will ear-worm themselves into your soul.
To some, Donny Benét is best described as the favourite nephew to uncles Giorgio Moroder, Alan Vega and Michael McDonald. To others, he’s a strangely charming, smooth-talking throwback to the ‘anything goes’ days of louche 80s dinner parties. Expect vintage synthesisers, drum machines and throbbing bass to provide the scintillating backdrop to Donny's views on life, love and relationships – all told through the power of song.
“He’s a glistening, unabashedly romantic human disco ball. But there’s more to this cult Sydney artist than pink suits, pungent cologne and ’80s worship.” – NME
Donny is supported by the dynamic double act Lily and Grace Richardson – aka Clews – who deliver bags of candied grunge that sparkles with lush harmonies and sharp songwriting. You might hear distinct echoes of 90s britpop and 00s indie laced with harmonies that would make Crowded House tear up, yet these two are firmly in their own sonic lane.
“The two Mollymook natives were born and raised on the anthemic ballads of the ‘90s. Now based in Sydney, the girls are singing big choruses and writing songs that will make your heart explode.” – triple j unearthed
