Singer-songwriter, producer, classical composer and multi-instrumentalist Devonté Hynes has helped shape the sound of an era, moving between indie, pop, RnB, jazz and orchestral music with an ease that belies his immense talent. Returning to Australia for the first time in more than a decade, Hynes is set to make his long-awaited Vivid LIVE debut in the Concert Hall, where he’ll be joined by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra performing a selection of his Classical Works.
Born in Houston and raised London, Hynes established himself as one of the pioneering producers in contemporary pop, collaborating with Solange, Carly Rae Jepsen, Kylie Minogue, FKA Twigs, Haim, Mariah Carey, and many more, while releasing the acclaimed hip-hop/electro-soul albums Cupid Deluxe (2013), Freetown Sound (2016) and Negro Swan (2018) under his Blood Orange moniker.
As a classically-trained musician, Hynes has also composed soundtracks for Luca Guadagnino's We Are Who We Are (2020), Rebecca Hall's Passing (2021) and Melina Matsoukas' Queen and Slim (2019), performed alongside the legendary Philip Glass at the Kennedy Center, and wowed critics and audiences with his future-facing foray into classical music, Fields (2019), a collaboration with Third Coast Percussion that was nominated for a Grammy for Best Chamber Music or Small Ensemble Performance. In 2021, he premiered Happenings, his debut concerto for piano and strings, at New York's Little Island Festival.
Hynes has recently sold out shows with the London Symphony Orchestra, the LA Philharmonic and at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, where played a selection of classical work drawing upon his genre-defying work across the musical spectrum.
Don’t miss this chance to see one of the millennium’s most captivating and original performers, taking to the stage for one night only.
