Since their formation just a couple of years ago, Korean Australian sensations 1300 have changed the way audiences look at the local hip-hop landscape. The hip hop meets breakbeat collective – a five-piece comprised of rappers rako, goyo, DALI HART, producer-singer Nerdie and producer pokari.sweat – dropped their first single 'Brr' in January of last year. They quickly followed it up with the incendiary 'Smashmouth', 'No Caller ID', a slamming remix of Payday and Danny Brown’s 'Vampire', and 'Oldboy', an infectious, high-energy collage of hard hip-hop and hyper-pop inspired by the classic Korean cult movie of the same name. Following their blazing run of singles, 1300 announced, their first mixtape Foreign Language, released 29 April, alongside their feature single, the hypnotic 'Rocksta'.
With melodic hooks and shape-shifting rhymes that alternate between Korean and English, music that draws on Soundcloud rap, electronic music and ’90s breakbeat, and an explosive chemistry that powers their live performances, 1300 have quickly become the genre-smashing Australian hip-hop crew to watch.
This is their Sydney Opera House debut. It’s gonna be a big one.
