Event Details

The Great Barrier Reef’s demise is widely seen as a foregone conclusion – but is that framing limiting our imagination of what comes next?

In an invigorating panel at the Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM), explore going beyond the bleach with comedian and author Adam Spencer, marine biologist Emma Camp, Torres Strait artist Brian Robinson, coral reef ecologist Ben Fitzpatrick and moderator Emily Jateff, ANMM’s Senior Curator of Ocean Science and Technology.

Relentlessly thought-provoking, this panel doesn’t shy away from scientific reality, instead looking at practical pathways forward.

Combatting despair, Beyond The Bleach considers how we can best look after the Great Barrier Reef, incorporating Indigenous knowledge of the seas alongside Camp’s leading research of coral reef recovery. Plus, the trio explore how art and storytelling like Robinson’s can shift perspectives.

Also included in your ticket is a welcome drink as well as after-hours access to ANMM galleries and entry to the post-panel Sea Citizens After Party. It’s a chance to connect with the panelists and other ocean advocates, with hands-on activities and additional drinks available to purchase.

Presented by the Australian National Maritime Museum in partnership with Rolex.
