Follow the Vivid flock along the Light Walk where you’ll spot stylised light sculptures resembling our native birds. This ‘birdwatching’ adventure highlights the diversity and survival skills of Greater Sydney's feathered friends whose habitats and existence are encroached upon by our sprawling cityscapes, increasing populations and lifestyles.

Each ‘bird’ bears the colours of one of our most vibrant species. Their shape is a geometric abstraction of a bird in flight. According to designer and light artist Chris Daniel, the aesthetic is inspired by the technology-driven ideas that developed from 1900s Futurism and became prevalent in post-1960’s popular culture.

Dotted all along the walk from Circular Quay to Central Station, placement of the birds creates a continual visual thread connecting all artworks, even the secluded ones, and provides a scavenger hunt / wayfinding experience to aid and encourage visitors to explore and see more of the festival.

Will you recognise the Crimson Rosella, Rainbow Lorikeet, Sacred Kingfisher, King Parrot, Galah, Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo, Eastern Rosella, Red-rumped Parrot, Glossy Black Cockatoo, and Little Corella – amongst others? And what other wonders will you discover along the way?
