Only 15% of Australians think the system that governs life in Australia is working. We are the least trusting nation in social media, fearful of fake news. We aren’t convinced that things will get better over the next five years. The Edelman Trust Barometer reveals that trust has changed profoundly over the past two decades.
Trust has shifted from top-down powerful political leaders and CEOs, to the democratisation of trust - social media people power, to the current state – a more localised form of trust. Australian’s are ready for change, who will they trust to lead that change? “My Employer” has emerged as the most trusted entity, while an “Employee” is the most trusted voice within an organisation.
There is an expectation for business to hear the rally cry “lead the change our country needs!” Australians believe that business can simultaneously increase profits and improve communities; they are calling on CEOs to lead change.
The PRIA Vivid event will explore trust and the business of purpose, passion and profit in a lively debate. Who will win in the world of public opinion, shareholders, corporate social responsibility and truth? Edelman will set the scene with a deep dive into Trust Barometer insights, revealing the gender divide in trust, changing trust in traditional media and trust in Government. This will be followed by a lively debate including major corporates, start-ups, movers and shakers.
