KLP, real name Kristy Lee Peters, is a talented force of the Australian music industry, with credentials that cement her reputation as a multi-faceted industry heavyweight. Between writing and recording her own music, co-writing for other musicians and collaborating with local and international artists, KLP also found time to host the country’s biggest Dance Music radio program, triple j’s House Party every Saturday night for 5 years – getting to know the Australian audiences and party with Australia once a week. Kristy recently left the number one youth broadcaster to focus on her own releases including an album in 2019. KLP is regularly called upon to collaborate with some of the biggest, most influential local and international names in the music industry. This has included songwriting collaborations and vocal features including recently on the viral hit ‘GOH’ her collaboration with Skrillex and What So Not, she has also worked with Slumberjack, Snails, Goldfields, Zimmer, The Presets, Set Mo, Thandi Phoenix, Nicole Millar and more.

Kathy McCabe has been writing about music and the people who make it for 25 years. She swapped covering murder and mayhem for Australia’s leading newspaper group News Corp Australia to eventually become the National Music Writer and a passionate advocate for the art form. During her career, she has interviewed every recording artist and performer who matters and counts Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Dave Grohl, Pink, Keith Urban, Josh Homme, Noel Gallagher and almost every single Australian artist she has encountered among her favourite chats.There was a two-year detour from writing for McCabe when she signed on as a talent scout to re-open the Australian music department for EMI and Virgin in Australia in the mid-90s. She has seen more gigs than movies in her lifetime and like most fans on the planet, remains mystified and captivated by the magic that happens when an artist performs live.

Alison Avron is the founder and director of Sydney’s cosiest live music, The Newsagency. It started from humble beginnings in 2011 as a 40 capacity BYO space out of an ex-newsagent. The venue has now relocated to a 100 capacity licensed venue in Camperdown maintaining the same intimate and supportive environment for performers and patrons. Alison is also a singer, songwriter and performer.  Before dedicating her life to showcasing Australian independent artists at The Newsagency, she independently released two EPs, a studio album and toured various shows around Australia at Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne Fringe Festivals.

Founder & Director of Heaps Gay

Kat Dopper is a Senior Event Producer specialising in the music and youth market and has over a decade of experience multiple brands such as Junkee, Electronic Music Conference, Red Bull Music, Splendour in the grass, Semi Permanent and FBi Radio. She is also the Founder and Director of Heaps Gay, an all-inclusive community who throw art, music and charity events around Australia.  Kat is on the Board of Directors for the Sydney Mardi Gras and is also a fortnightly guest presenter on FBi Radio in Sydney. Kat has recently been appointed to the City of Sydney Nightlife and Creative Sector Advisory Panel.

Nick Yates is the General Manager of Artist Management for UNIFIED Music Group, one of Australia’s fastest growing independent music companies. Day to day he is responsible for the careers of Illy, Violent Soho, Amy Shark (AU/NZ only), The Kite String Tangle, Nina Las Vegas and Hellions and as well as overseeing the Management division of the company. Moderator Kathy McCabe, national music journalist will lead a thought-provoking and insightful conversation around the panel's personal journey to success, challenges and opportunities they’ve faced and how their communities have supported them along the way and what the future holds.

The panel brings together: Kristy Lee Peters aka KLP, Kat Dopper; Founder of Heaps Gay and Alison Avron; Founder of live music venue, The Newsagency who are all engaged with American Express Music Backers Grant Program
