Stories with impact: Backtrack Boys
Level 6 Terrace Entrance (Circular Quay West Side)
Documentary Australia shines a light on Catherine Scott’s Backtrack Boys, an award-winning documentary shifting views on young people doing it tough.
Bernie Shakeshaft runs the BackTrack youth program from a shed on the outskirts of Armidale NSW. Follow the boys under his care as they hit the road with their legendary dog jumping team and strive to turn their lives around.
The film also provides a view of BackTrack’s successful philosophy and shows how the program helps kids at risk to navigate their relationships, deal with personal trauma, and take responsibility for their decisions to create sustainable lives for themselves.
“I hope this film will foster a greater understanding of the issues these kids face and inspire communities to develop real alternatives that will help keep them out of jail.”– director Catherine Scott.
Documentary Australia Foundation is a unique not-for-profit that supports documentary makers to ensure important stories are told and placed at the heart of social impact campaigns.
In this session we'll show moving scenes from the award-winning BackTrack Boys film, explain how documentaries are being successfully used to shift the dial on important social issues and present the Impact Strategy behind the film
