Tom Dawkins, Co-Founder and CEO,

For over 15 years Tom Dawkins has been exploring how technology and culture can be harnessed as tools to create a more democratic and participatory society.

Tom is the co-founder of social change crowdfunding platform, which supports social entrepreneurs to raise the funds and mobilise the community they need to make a difference, and the Director of the Australian Changemakers Festival.

Tom previously founded several non-profits including Vibewire Youth Inc. which he led from 2000-2008. Achievements included the 2002 launch of the youth culture website, opening the first  co-working space in Australia, sQuareOne (now the Vibewire Innovation Lab), in 2006, and embedding the first youth reporters with candidates as part of the electionTracker project covering the Federal election in 2004 and 2007.

From 2008-2010 Tom was the first Social Media Director at Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, with the mandate of using social technologies to help create an Everyone a Changemaker World. While there he grew Ashoka’s Twitter following to over 300,000 and launched one of the first regular Twitter chats, #SocEntChat, which continues to this day.

Tom has been recognized with numerous awards and fellowships and has been a regular speaker at conferences, seminars and workshops for past 14 years, including SXSW, the World Summit on the Information Society, Connecting Up and FWD.

Tom is a passionate advocate for the power of technology and social media to build community, inspire changemakers and empower all of us to change the world.

REMIX Sydney is part of a series of summits taking place in leading creative capitals including London, New York and Dubai investigating the big ideas shaping the creative economy, creative cities and culture.
