Event Details

Flip the script with artist Yuki Kihara, in a night celebrating her stunning, bold exhibition Paradise Camp. In partnership with Matavai Pacific Cultural Arts, this Powerhouse Late is all about discovery, disruption and wicked delight – think 'Alisi in Pacific Wonderland', where nothing is quite what it seems.

Don’t miss a chance to hear from Yuki first-hand, in conversation with Melissa Malu, the Manager of the Australian Museum’s Pasifika Collections and Engagement, and Airileke, the musical pioneer behind the night’s transportive soundscape. Melissa will also lead another talanoa (talk) later in the night.

Leading you through the Paradise Camp exhibition throughout the night are Matavai, performing guides blending responsive dance choreography with traditional vocals. Together, you’ll unpack Paradise Camp’s intricacies and finer points. They’ll also take over the theatre with a Pacific dance showcase.

And reclaim recycled materials with master weaver Sione Falemaka and designer-stylist Bayvick Lawrence (of Bayvick Designs), in an adornment workshop in The Lab. Create small, charming works to take home, or challenge yourself (and your fingers) with bigger beauties while you talanoa with these innovative artists.

Plus, catch a series of short films from Yuki Kihara throughout the night in the Kings Cinema, and as well a series of projections in the Turbine Hall. And take a sip from speciality cocktails, as you jump into this curated program of immersive experiences, dance, workshops and more in this special one-night-only celebration.
