Screenwriter & Playwright

Beau Willimon is the creator and screenwriter of the award-winning Netflix series House of Cards. Set in Washington DC, House of Cards is described as a “wicked political drama that penetrates the shadowy world of greed, sex, and corruption in modern American politics.” Starring Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey, the show is the first original series developed and distributed exclusively by and on Netflix to rave critical and viewership reviews.

Beau’s play Farragut North had its world premiere at the Atlantic Theater Company in New York in November 2008. Event Details

Screenwriter and producer Beau Willimon created House of Cards: one of the most highly-acclaimed streaming series on screen today.

Set in Washington DC, House of Cards is described as a “wicked political drama that penetrates the shadowy world of greed, sex, and corruption in modern America.” The show is the first original series developed and distributed exclusively by and on streaming platform, Netflix, and has garnered rapturous critical acclaim – topped by Golden Globe wins for both leads, Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright.

Showrunner Beau Willimon is the creative mind behind the characters and storylines that have hooked millions of viewers around the world - leading the development of the series as showrunner in the first four seasons. It’s an extraordinary achievement for a TV novice – House of Cards is Willimon’s first foray onto the small screen – catapulting him into the global spotlight almost overnight.

Before the screen, Willimon has also had success on stage. His play Farrugut North had its world premiere at the Atlantic Theatre Company in New York; it was later adapted into film, retitled Ides of March, starring George Clooney and Ryan Gosling.

Willimon offers his insights into crafting drama, shares his approach to collaboration and explains the business behind producing quality content. Joining him on stage as host is award-winning journalist and author Leigh Sales (ABC 7.30).

Beau Willimon will appear as part of the Vivid Ideas Game-Changers Talk Series: conversations with global creative industries leaders.

A Vivid Sydney exclusive.
