Journey Among Women, 1977

Sometimes described as "a brutal, lost Australian classic", Tom Cowan's A Journey Among Women is set in colonial Australia, and follows refined Elizabeth Harrington, as she helps female convicts escape appalling conditions into the bush, where an Aboriginal girl teaches them how to survive. The women ultimately face off the men who abused them (including Elizabeth's fiance Captain McEwan) in a revenge attack. The film has been at the centre of debates about women in Australian cinema.

Curated & hosted by Jay Katz & Miss Death
