About Vivid Sydney
If there’s one place in the world where creativity, innovation and technology shine bright, it’s Vivid Sydney, a festival of Light, Music and Ideas.
Each year Vivid Sydney brings together light artists, music makers and brilliant minds to share their creativity with you. The festival celebrates Sydney as the creative hub of the Asia-Pacific with large-scale light installations and projections, free family events, cutting-edge music performances and thought-provoking ideas talks, workshops and conferences.
The festival has been instrumental in driving visitation to Sydney and stimulating the city’s visitor economy in winter, traditionally a quieter period for visitation. In 2019, Vivid Sydney attracted over 2 million visitors and contributed millions of dollars to the NSW economy.
Heading into its twelfth year in 2020, Vivid Sydney is the largest festival of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and the largest event in Australia.
Vivid Sydney 2020 will be held between 22 May - 13 June.

In 2019, the inaugural Vivid School was held over four days at the ICC Sydney. Vivid School gives High School students in Years 9-12 the opportunity to meet artists behind the event’s acclaimed 3D mapped projections and light installations. Students learn about the processes involved in the light-art production and find out about pathways to careers in the creative industries.
ACCESS AND INCLUSION
Vivid Sydney is committed to ensuring the festival is inclusive and accessible to all, giving the event universal appeal. Managed accessible viewing areas are available enabling visitors to take a break from the crowds and enjoy the festival. There are also drop-off and pick-up zones, audio described tours and Vivid Sydney volunteers stationed at managed access sites.
In 2019, all grid-connected lighting installations at Vivid Sydney were powered by 100 per cent Green Power accredited renewable energy which is sourced from regional NSW. Other Vivid Sydney sustainability initiatives include the purchase of verified carbon offsets, the use of efficient LED technologies, promotion of public transport, waste minimisation, electronic ticketing and social inclusion.
Vivid Sydney is owned, managed and produced by Destination NSW, the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency.
