Erika de Casier

Reimagining the sounds of ’90s R&B, trip-hop and turn-of-the-millennium beats for the endless now, Portuguese-born, Danish-based singer, songwriter and producer Erika de Casier has become one of pop’s most admired artists, both for her dreamy-nostalgic solo work and her behind-the-scenes talent as a secret songwriting weapon. Making her debut appearance at the Sydney Opera House, de Casier will perform her retro-futurist pop with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Channeling the sleek R&B and UK garage of her youth, de Casier came to attention with her debut album, Essentials (2019), earning a co-sign (and later, remixing duties) for pop superstar Dua Lipa. Her follow-up, Sensational (2021), drew on everything from Destiny’s Child to Café del Mar, while the effortlessly cool and confident Still (2024) ranked among critics’ best records of the year. In between, de Casier penned a pair of massive hits for K-Pop superstars NewJeans, including the smash “Super Shy”. Her self-produced 2025 album Lifetime, “channeling trip-hop and R&B in aqueous synths and boom-bap drums” (Pitchfork), earned her widespread acclaim.

Event Details

One of the most influential pop artists of the moment, Portuguese-born, Danish-based singer-songwriter Erika de Casier has quietly become one of modern music's key architects since her 2019 debut album, Essentials. The critically acclaimed Sensational (2021) and Still (2024) followed, alongside collaborations with the likes of Dua Lipa, Blood Orange and Shygirl, and writing and production work for NewJeans’ number one smash EP Get Up, all culminating in last year’s breakthrough, Lifetime. Written and produced entirely by de Casier, the album was named among 2025’s best by Pitchfork, The Guardian, Vogue, The FADER and many more, and took her on her biggest headline stages to date, opening for sold-out shows with Lorde and Robyn.

For her Sydney Opera House debut, de Casier will perform her sleek genre-defying catalogue with players from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. The performance will be conducted by award-winning musician Nicholas Buc, a storied composer, conductor and arranger who has worked with the likes of Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, Diana Ross and Wynton Marsalis, and arranged by Sydney-based pianist, composer and improvisor Novak Manojlovic, an avant garde musician who has collaborated with NGAIIRE, Sampa The Great, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and many others.

This performance is produced in association with Concert Lab.
