Vivid Art After Hours: You Can't Ask That

Join us for a celebration of diversity. ABC TV’s hit show You Can’t Ask That asks groups of misunderstood, judged or marginalised Australians the awkward, inappropriate or uncomfortable questions you’ve always wanted to know the answers to, but have been too afraid to ask. Hear from some of the show’s participants about creating connections and communities. They will be joined by the producers Kirk Docker and Aaron Smith, who will reveal their motivations for making the show and what happens behind the scenes.  

After the talk, step back and imagine the future. When Buzz Aldrin played a cassette during the lunar landing on 20 July 1969, Sinatra’s Fly Me to the Moon hung in the oxygen-free air.  If that was the first song played on the moon, what else was on that Apollo 11 cassette? 

Hear these spookily pre-imagined songs 50 years on. In An Astronaut’s Playlist, the awarded Jonathan Zwartz  Lunar Module conjures the pathos of being in space and looking back at our tiny blue planet. You might hear anyone from Debussy to Bowie, from Kraftwerk and AIR to The Killers. Jonathan Zwartz is known as one of the major players on the Australian jazz landscape and is a composer and songwriter. His albums The Sea and The Remembering and Forgetting of Air have been best-selling jazz records for many years.
