Jurassic Lounge: Australian Museum X Vivid Ideas

After three years at home making sourdough in slouchwear, Jurassic Lounge is back and holding out for the heroes!  

Peel off those trackies and get your cape back from your neighbour because the Australian Museum’s iconic after-hours party is returning bigger than ever, and this time …YOU ARE THE HERO. (Well, you’re dressed like one). You’re Ash Barty, you’re a front-line worker, you’re an Avenger, you’re Lady Whistledown, you’re the cast of Squid Game, you’re Elsa of Arendelle, you’re the legend on a scooter, in the rain, with a delivery of deliciousness for a stranger.   

Jurassic Lounge will see heroes entertained in the Museum’s galleries and hidden spaces, which will be crawling with DJs, artists, scientists and dancers. There’ll be performances by some of Sydney’s most fabulous drag queens, a mutant barnyard, and an autopsy of a T. rex conducted by leading scientists from Improv Theatre Sydney. There’ll be face-painting, dancing, side-show antics, immersive experiences, performances, a pop-up bar and the chance to explore the blockbuster exhibition, Jurassic World by Brickman®.

Soul of Sydney DJs  

Fresh from performances at Sydney Festival and Vivid, Soul of Sydney DJs are professional body-movers and purveyors of the finest musical selections.

Sydney Drag Royalty  

Three of Sydney’s finest drag queens will be gracing audiences with their best performances and silent disco vibes.

Nocturnals Uncovered with Celia Curtis 

Scientific Illustrator, Celia Curtis will teach you how to sketch specimens from the Museum’s own collection in these drop-in drawing classes. 

Gramophone Man & the Mutant Barnyard  

Peruse a collection of The Space Cowboy’s sideshow curios, while Gramophone Man serenades you with his unique music contraption.

T. rex Autopsy  

Join the team from Improv Theatre Sydney as they dive into the insides of a T. rex. 

Deep Sea Astronauts  

Ali Sebastian Wolf’s incredible critter creations will be roaming the AM.
