Award winning director, producer, cinematographer and all-around Waterman Jack McCoy's career has been at the forefront of innovation. The genial Hawaiian-born film maker is world renowned for 25 iconic and award-winning surfing films that have entertained fans with beautiful images, exotic locations and cutting-edge performance surfing. He’s tracked the development of surfing as an art form over more than 40 years, documenting the greatest surfers in history such as Gerry Lopez, Tom Carroll, Andy Irons and Kelly Slater.

One of the world’s best free surfers, Craig Anderson travels the globe in search of surf. He has a regular starring role in Kai’s films and brings a unique insiders backstage pass view of the classic stories behind them. Craig will appear on stage with Jack and Kai, sharing his favorite moments, stories and clips from their films and ideas on what’s coming around the corner.

Craig joins Jack for CRYSTAL GAZINGS – Saturday June 1 at the MCA.

Dave Rastovich was 15 when McCoy took notice of this exceptionally talented surfer on the Billabong Jr team. He quickly learned how this young man had a great appreciation for surfing’s past to inspire him into the future. Rasta also impressed McCoy with his love of nature and the environment. McCoy introduced Rasta to the world with his film BLUE HORIZON and the rest is history with Rasta today becoming one of the world’s best ‘Free Surfers’ as well as a passionate environmental activist.

Rasta joins Jack for CLASSIC LINES, Friday June 14 at the MCA.

Wayne Lynch was 15 years old when he took the surfing world by storm and is credited as the inventor of 'vertical surfing'. Shunning competition and the spotlight, Wayne was more comfortable surfing the remote Great Ocean Road coastline. McCoy collaborated with Wayne in 1975 for the film A Day in The Life of Wayne Lynch and again in 1982 for Storm Riders. As one of the worlds most respected surfboard shapers, Wayne has become surfing’s eloquent spokesman for the ocean and the environment.

Wayne joins Jack for CLASSIC LINES, Friday June 14 at the MCA.

Kai Neville is the man behind some of the most popular surf films of the present era. Over the last ten years he has made four era-defining films: Modern Collective, Lost Atlas, Dear Suburbia and Cluster. For the first time on stage together, Kai and Jack will riff on past and current film making, sharing their top stories, tips, and future musings.

A seeker of wild places and pristine point breaks, Belinda’s heart has always been set on the ocean. A passionate all-around surfer and bodysurfer, she’s best known for her graceful and technically accomplished longboard style. Bindy has a wandering spirit, but her roots are on Australia’s Surf Coast. She recently added the role of mom to her resume, and delights in sharing the beauty of this world with her son.

Award winning filmmaker Jack McCoy invites you to enjoy a session of stoke with his stories as a director, cinematographer, photographer and producer at a special event at the MCA as part of VIVID Ideas Sydney, with Jack joined on stage by a line-up of special guests.

In a two hour audio visual ‘talk story’ Jack will take you behind the scenes on the making of his life’s work of 25 iconic films featuring killer surfing, some Bunyips, an Iguana and plenty of Tales From The Tube.

The Hawaiian-born film maker is world renowned for 25 iconic and award-winning surfing films that have entertained fans with beautiful images, exotic locations and cutting-edge performance surfing.

He’s tracked surfing as an art form over more than 40 years, documenting the greatest surfers in history such as Gerry Lopez, Tom Carroll, Andy Irons and Kelly Slater.

Due to popular demand, there are two Talk Story event dates and guest line-ups at Vivid 2019.

 

Event One: Saturday June 1st, 2PM-4PM - Crystal Gazings

Talk Story at Vivid Ideas One will feature Jack’s presentation with his special guests KAI NEVILLE and CRAIG ANDERSON sharing stories and forecasting the future of surf film making and media. Gazing into the surf crystal ball and asking, "What is next?" Not to be missed.

Event Two: Friday June 14, 8PM-10PM - Classic Lines

Talk Story at Vivid Ideas Two will feature Jack’s presentation with his special guests DAVID RASTOVICH and the legendary WAYNE LYNCH talking about the behind the scenes of the classic projects they have made together. Followed by drinks on the MCA rooftop, overlooking stunning Sydney Harbour and the stunning VIVID lights.

Jack's interactive ‘talk-story’ events have captivated audience’s around the world, with a mix of story-telling, film clips (some never before seen by the public) and photographs from his illustrious career.
