Event Details

It’s rare to find someone capable of injecting such life into every single lyric … each emotion and sentiment was conveyed with such personality and conviction through her musical choices, inflection and perhaps simply natural ability to really tell a story through song.” – London Jazz News

Coined ‘the queen of the unhurried’ at the recent London Jazz Festival, Madeleine Peyroux is an unparalleled songstress and a strong believer in the power of song quoted as having said “music, song, the voice: this is my spiritual life”.

Madeleine will perform from her soon to be released album Anthem, whose newly written songs emanate from producer Larry Klein suggesting writing sessions with a group of great musicians/writers that include Patrick Warren, Brian Macleod, and David Baerwald.

The album includes a classic title track by Leonard Cohen, the Harold Arlen/ E.Y. Yip Harburg song Last Night When We Were Young and a musical setting of the French poem of the World War II era Liberté by Paul Eluard.

The album achieves the difficult task of balancing humour, pathos and irony while weaving a topical thread throughout that addresses current issues. A vivid picture is painted of the challenges that our times present for someone trying to hold on to their hope, heart and optimism in the world we now confront.
