Off the back of a debut album, Tom Stephens has been experiencing a snowball-effect of praise and local radio airplay. Delving into the decisions and consequences of his relationships, the tracks on ‘What Lies in the Difference’, teeter between their jangly, folky playfulness and his deeply earnest vocal.
Since releasing his first EP in 2012, Stephens has been refining his sound, particularly with lead single ‘Down To Rest’, a track that is laden with a gentle and distinctly Australian sound. He recorded the album on friend and musician Julia Jacklin’s Blue Mountains farm and has since gained rotation on Unearthed, user, FBi and ABC’s Radio National.
On stage, Tom Stephens performs his upbeat and tender suite of intimate songs alongside honeyed backing vocals, double bass and modest guitar. You can catch him delivering the goods with his band charmingly squeezed into the intimate mirrored stage at Golden Age Cinema and Bar.
