Combine a concert pianist with a strong Latin heritage, 3 highly regarded jazz musicians playing accordion, reeds, double bass and guitar, an extraordinary string (violin & viola) chamber musician with a dynamic modern flautist with a passion for Piazzolla, and you have Alturas.
This diverse group of musicians combine influences from their respective musical backgrounds to create something very special, unique and definitely NOT traditional tango.
Expect to hear dark sultry tango/jazz interspersed with rich, lyrical melodies. Whilst Alturas do not play traditional tango dance music, it is not uncommon for dancers to find inspiration in Alturas’ innovative interpretation of tango.
With only a few concerts each year, audiences of classical, jazz, Latin and modern art music should not miss the opportunity to hear tango/jazz sextet Alturas.
