We have entered an era often referred to as the ‘Metropolitan century’, which will see almost 70 per cent of the world’s population living in urban centres by 2050. To support this urban migration, Australia is projected to spend over $75 billion on transport infrastructure over the next 10 years.
In previous eras of urban development, infrastructure investment has largely bent towards the latest innovation in transport. Today, the great urban migration is being driven by people, requiring a new approach, one that puts individuals’ needs and their quality of life at its centre.
As the ways we live and work evolves, can our investment in infrastructure start to deliver on the ‘untimed life’, a reality made possible when people’s lives are not dictated by a traditional timetable? Our panel of urban planners discusses this notion and considers:
- Whether city amenity can actively enhance our ‘work-life’ experience?
- Is there such a thing as a humane city?
- Can the millions of people and billions of dollars that are pouring into our cities improve our quality of life?
Explore the potential for The Untimed Life and become part of the conversation around the future of our cities.
