The Even Greater Sydney Planning Committee was formed when HG Nelson and James Valentine realised what Sydney needed was one more body devoted to Sydney planning. The Committee for Sydney, the Greater Sydney Planning Committee, and other government departments with very long names – were nothing like enough.

Writer, actor, comedian and director, HG Nelson (aka Greig Pickhaver AM) is celebrated as one half of award-winning Australian sports comedy duo Roy and HG. From triple j’s This Sporting Life to a litany of acclaimed television comedies that amount to ‘sporting gold’, HG brings no direct experience in planning and development to the Committee, yet that is exactly what makes him an ideal leader in this space.

ABC Radio Sydney’s Breakfast host James Valentine has been a familiar presence on radio and television as a reviewer, reporter and commentator. He is also a musician with his own jazz quartet. These skills are precisely what makes the EGSPC so laser-focused on transformational change.

The EGSPC knew they could offer the mentorship, the thought leadership, the agile 360 placemaking that Sydney needs. Their masterplan sees not just a North and West connex but a South and East connex as well. They support above ground tunnels. They advocate for the Dubbo to Darwin Canal.

The EGSPC thinks outside the box, inside the box, and sometimes ignores the box entirely.

Come for the vibrancy, be astonished at the vision. A night with the EGSPC will make you dream of a better Sydney – where the impossible is just the beginning.

EGSPC. Plan. Build. Demolish. Repeat.
