How does a creative business find, attract and retain clever, creative people?

Creative businesses have unique and challenging staffing requirements, usually expressed in the need for talented and loyal people as well as the nimble necessity of scaling up and down depending on the number of projects on the slate.

Most creative businesses use a complicated combination of freelancers, interns, casual staff and friends – while owners work all hours to keep the wheels turning.

People : Skills is a workshop and panel discussion that discusses how to attract, recruit and retain great workers, and how to understand the different needs of freelancers, employees and volunteers.

Learn how to:

• write a job description (before you think you need to)
• conduct meaningful interviews with potential candidates
• use external recruitment companies if necessary
• develop a ‘book’ of freelancers and casual help
• be the best boss and retain great people
• use interns and free labour
• understand superannuation, fair work policies and more.

Our panellists also discuss how to overcome the little experience a creative business owner might have in recruitment. This practical workshop is followed by a casual and catered networking event so participants can get to know each other and meet some of the recruitment agencies attending on the night.
