Personal Best Presents: The Goods, Pretty Mess, PhysiQue (DJ Set) & Cryme Wave (DJ Set)
Museum of Contemporary Art
Armed with an array of boogielicious disco, funk and r’n’b rhythms, Personal Best Records are more than ready to present their second VIVID showcase – this time in the breathtaking MCA harbour side terrace.
The Sydney-based label has carefully curated a line-up that celebrates the best of innovative dance music, with live performances from The Goods and Pretty Mess, and DJ sets from PhysiQue and Cryme Wave. Each act defies genre boundaries to bring you the perfect balance of contemporary and old school beats. The free event is locked in for June 11, so come down for a drink or two and let Personal Best Records be the intoxicating soundtrack to your Saturday night.
This past year has seen THE GOODS making seismic ripples across Sydney’s nightlife, serving out healthy doses of deep funk, low slung house and left-of-centre RnB. Embodying what it means to be both wildly creative but sharply focused, the dynamic duo have moulded a sound entirely their own - as heard in their debut single ‘Strong Man’ and sophomore follow up ‘Only One’. With new single ‘Nightlife’ and their debut Double EP about to release in July, The Goods are dropping funk bombs everywhere and not to be missed.
Pretty Mess combine elements of 90’s r’n’b, future phunk, Prelude-y disco and gurly emo pop…..their first single My Anatomy is an irresistible pulsing and surging slow-mo groove, co-produced and written by Michael di Francesco (Touch Sensitive) and Josh Beagley (Confection/SWOOP).
PHYSIQUE reinvents classic boogie funk with lashings of shimmery synths and an undeniable edge. His latest single ‘Same Mistakes’ received nothing but praise, coming in strong at #33 on FBi’s most played tracks of 2015.
Rounding off Personal Best’s eclectic line-up is the low-wave funk stylings of CRYME WAVE, about to release their first single “Genetics”. Seriously deep boogie.
