Alyx Gorman

Editor & Writer

Alyx Gorman is the Editor of Time Out Sydney, and the Fashion Editor of the Saturday Paper. She feels a constant low level guilt about her use of social media, but whether it's because she's on it too much or too little fluctuates daily. Alyx has worked for ELLE Magazine, the Mamamia Women's Network, Fairfax and Oyster Magazine. She has written for The Guardian, Meanjin and i-D. Her greatest achievement was winning a beauty writing award for a story about colonics, because it has allowed her to claim that she has literally pulled success from her rectum.

Event Details

Margaret Zhang is one of Australia’s most influential new creatives: she has built a global fanbase for her work as a stylist, photographer, and creative director.

Since her digital beginnings in the fashion industry in 2009, Margaret has worked with global brands including UNIQLO, Swarovski, Clinique, Louis Vuitton and more, in a wide range of content and consulting capacities.

Through her owned channels, Margaret offers the world a sophisticated aesthetic and global perspective, a one-woman communications and creative agency. Margaret represents a new generation of creative producers: independent thinkers who refuse to fit into one easy categorisation, who work across disciplines, blur boundaries between creative and commercial work, and who build their own passionate audiences around the world.

On stage at Vivid Ideas, Margaret shares the journey of her career to this point, explains her approaches to collaborations and working with brands, and explains the processes and practices that make her prolific output possible. This event offers essential insights for creative practitioners who want to manage their own self-directed careers, and communicators who want to learn how to generate engaging content, and grow engaged communities.

Margaret Zhang will appear as part of the Vivid Ideas Game-Changers Talk Series: conversations with global creative industries leaders. Joining her on stage as host is Alyx Gorman, Editor of TimeOut Sydney.
