Image. A forest of slender poles topped with spheres of various sizes covers a platform shaped like a table tennis bat. When visitors blow into a mouthpiece at the platform’s narrow ‘handle’ end, the ‘bubbles’ light up and seem to drift upwards, colours and distance changing with the force of the breath. Guangzhou Dance with Light Media Co., Ltd: Lu Yang (China) / Yang Liu (China)

Everyone can be a Bubble Magician. Blow gently into the mouthpiece and scenes of childhood dreams appear in reality. Sensing your breath, countless pink bubbles gradually light up and drift into the sky. It’s as if each one is infused with an ounce of the soul of its bubble blower.

The installation is 8 meters long, 4 meters wide and 3.5 meters high. The main body is composed of hundreds of opaque polyethylene bubble balls of seven sizes. Stainless steel support rods and metal brackets seemingly float the pink hued bubbles in the air.

This delicate and whimsical work by light artists Lu Yang and Yang Liu has timeless, universal appeal. Data collected from audio sensors – including the vibration, volume and frequency of each blow – is converted into dynamic visual effects. Randomly generated by algorithms play out in real time, providing the audience with a new viewing experience with each breath.
