Are you a cinephile, film noir fan, gamer or just intrigued by virtual reality (VR)?

The Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) and Start VR present VR Noir: A Day Before the Night — an exciting opportunity for you to experience Virtual Reality firsthand.

Using cutting-edge VR technology, you will play a role within a Film Noir narrative in an expansive urban setting captured using 360 degree live action photography.

Taking part in the VR Noir experience will give you a unique insight into how Virtual Reality narrative engages audiences in a radically different way to traditional film and television.  

A VR Noir experience is 10 minutes, with a maximum of 4 people participating at one time. 

VR Noir is rated M: suitable for audiences 15 years plus.

All proceeds go to the AFTRS Equity Scholarships

Imagine creating a virtual reality film experience in which you play the lead role in a gripping drama. Can it be done? The Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) partnered with Start VR to find out. AFTRS is pleased to launch the interactive narrative, VR Noir: A Day Before the Night. The event includes ticketed sessions of the VR Noir experience, an HTC Vive rooftop experience, screenings of VR Noir, Behind the Scenes and Q & A discussion panels with VR Noir creators.

Panel Discussions

The AFTRS and Start VR team discuss the collision of traditional narrative drama and virtual reality. The Q & A's will include hearing from scriptwriters about the challenges of writing for interactive VR; the director about directing performance for VR; the producers about the challenges of VR production; the cinematographer about conception and technical challenges of shooting VR; as well as insights from AFTRS' lecturers in design, music and sound, and from FSM post production experts about a new pipeline for delivery of VR content.
