Event Details

If the beer splashed and guitar-riff-soaked walls of the Hoey could speak, they’d have quite the story to tell. Come and hear these tales as you relive the glory days of Sydney’s iconic Hopetoun Hotel, the legendary Sydney venue where artists like Paul Kelly, the Hoodoo Gurus, and Grammy winner Wally De Backer (Gotye) cut their teeth.

Hear a panel chat with Aussie musos and Hoey-regulars Sarah Blasko, Clyde Bramley and Sally Seltmann, photographer Tony Mott and UTS researchers Dr Liz Giuffre and Dr Gregory Ferris, who have resurrected the hotel through an interactive documentary.

Plus, catch a special sneak-peek of this new immersive doco, which features 50 original interviews with musicians, staff, and punters.

The Hoey shut its doors suddenly in 2009 and has remained empty ever since. This is an opportunity to re-open its iconic doors, pay homage to its rich legacy and relive the music scene of the 80s, 90s and early 2000s.

Come reminisce about the Hoey, a small space that had a huge impact.

The Spirits of the Hoey public research work has been partly funded by the City of Sydney and the Powerhouse Museum Research Fellowship Program.
