Unfocussed: Looking Past Your Assumptions to Find New Creative Possibilities

Featuring

Christopher Ireland

Christopher Ireland

Photographer

Photographer, Director, chief instigator of creative endeavours - Christopher Ireland thrives on deconstructing the fictitious walls of imaginations and creative processes.

Working fluidly between the artistic and commercial photographic industries, as a member of one of Australia’s leading photographic hubs, The POOL COLLECTIVE, Ireland has honed a meticulous sensibility towards the creative process.

Ireland’s duality as a photographer and director marked him as the obvious choice to direct, lead and mentor Canon’s The Lab - a project now synonymous with profound ideas of creativity.

Simonology

Simonology

Photographer

Born and raised in Germany, Simon studied Communication Design in Düsseldorf, and began a career as art director and designer of perfume packaging in Hamburg and Amsterdam.

Shortly after making his home in Sydney in early 2012, Simon began to pursue his passion for photography, mainly shooting portraits of people. It was then that he started to develop a unique angle by experimenting with 3D anaglyph photography, which gives his photographs a hidden depth.

While continuing to reshape and refine the 3D technique in a playful way, he started to work on abstract stills and conceptual creations.  A selection of his folio can be seen here:

Event Details

There are rules that we follow without thinking. But what happens when we consciously break those rules? Can we free ourselves creatively by challenging a notion that’s so ingrained, we don’t even notice it’s there?

As a part of Canon’s popular online content series The Lab, we explore what happens when we challenge the idea that a 'good' image is pin sharp and perfect, and how we can find and face these unwritten rules in own creative lives.

Join our panel of photographers and image-makers as they each share their own creative story and discuss how challenging their own assumptions has led them to exciting new creative territories.

This event is presented by Canon.
