Event Details

MLHLND will perform 'Clothes Off’ and 'Pretty' amongst other new material in a debut performance.

Sydney-based singer MLHLND mightn't have a Facebook page, and his SoundCloud catalogue might be under construction, but he has made significant-enough waves in a relatively short time to be welcomed as the newest signee to esteemed indie label Personal Best Records, and he's released fresh cut single ‘Clothes Off' to celebrate.

Recorded and mixed in NYC by Producer Joel Ford (Autre Ne Veut). The deal sees MLHLND become a freshly minted label mate to existing signees PBO, PhysiQue, Pretty Mess, Tear Council and more. The new, aptly titled ‘Clothes Off', is an eclectic mix; it never strays far from its core of downtempo, melodic etherealism while the singer's vocal, instrumental work and manipulation bursts and blooms in evocative crescendos and descrescendos throughout the song's near-four-minute runtime. Listen to the new goods below and get excited for the future prospects sure to fall at the feet of this swiftly developing artist.

“This is the start of something very cool.” Project U

"Clothes Off is a fun-f**king-tastic listen" Versus Magazine

"If his debut single “Clothes Off” is any indication, it’s only a matter of time before MLHLND goes global like fellow Australians Vance Joy, Chet Faker and Flume." Hollywood News

“We guarantee you'll have your "Clothes Off" within 5 min of pressing play on this tune from MLHLND” EDM Network

"Steamy, lovelorn R&B can be polarizing for some, as the sound can sometimes border between be-ing cheesy or simply overbearing, but Sydney newcomer MLHLND is toeing the line fantastical-ly” Hilly Dilly

“While we can’t help but make comparisons to acts like Autre Ne Veut and Shy Girls, MLHLND’s fresh take on the genre is sure to garner plenty of attention from audiophiles across the globe.” Lower Frequencies

“At its most skeletal, the new signing to lauded indie label Personal Best embodies the experimental flair of How To Dress Well and the carnal glow of Prince; but it’s his opaque tone and the hazy pro-duction that place this artist in a league of his own.“ Music Network

“By the time the saxophone part bleeds in around the three-minute mark, you'll wanna wind back and re-listen - always the first, and most reliable, sign of a great song.” Channel V

The official music video, shot on location in New York and directed by Tim Nagle, was premiered exclusively via ?uestlove's Okayfuture portal, the latest addition to the ac-claimed Okayplayer network, whose focus is to represent the convergence of new electronic music with hip-hop and soul that often defies any one category.
