Artistic Director, Creative Regions
Shelley Pisani is a founding director of Creative Regions, a not-for-profit arts production company based in Bundaberg, Queensland that has been operating for nine years. As a producer of socially-engaged artistic work, Creative Regions places artists and creative processes at the centre of initiatives that respond to social issues and aim to affect social change. The company’s mantra is “connecting communities, delivering creative experiences” and their place activation philosophy is formed around genuine community engagement and participation, remaining responsive and adaptive to community needs, telling stories of place, artist-led engagement, fostering innovation and promoting artistic quality.
Shelley has been producer of this program since its inception. Her background is in community cultural development, visual arts, gallery and museum practice, public art and heritage interpretation. Over her 20 years of experience in the arts industry, Shelley has instigated and led projects from large scale touring exhibitions to interpretive design for tourism attractions and cultural planning for local government. Her passion is enabling communities to have a voice through the arts and the testing of various place activation methodologies through project delivery, enabling her to continually evolve her practice.
