Phil Vernon

Director, Australian Ethical Investment

Phil is the Managing Director of Australian Ethical Investment, Australia’s leading ethical superannuation and investment manager. For 30 years, Australian Ethical has been making money do good for both its clients and the planet.

With $1.4bn in funds under management, and the investment performance of its flagship fund currently ranked #1 by Mercer over the past 10 years, Australian Ethical is proving that there is no need to compromise personal values for financial returns. In fact, it shows that ethical investing is no longer a sideshow but a legitimate way for people to save and invest for retirement.

With its Ethical Charter embedded in its constitution, Australian Ethical’s principles apply not only to its investment processes but its entire business. It is one of only three publicly-listed, certified B Corps worldwide, and was awarded the B Corp “Best for the World” in 2015 – placing it in the top 10% of 1,300 B Corps globally.

Phil is passionate about the need for the business and investment markets to recognise their stewardship responsibility in protecting the planet – and the fact that this can be done while generating strong financial returns. He believes that this is an urgent task and that more deliberate action is required by the guardians of the financial system – directors, superannuation trustees and regulators – in breaking down the barriers to making it happen. Phil has over 30 years’ experience in financial services and is also a Director of the Responsible Investment Association of Australia, the Planet Ark Environmental Foundation and Beyond Zero Emissions.

Phil is speaking at Conscious Change 2016 on June 7, 2016, at the ivy Ballroom, Level 1, The Ivy, 320 George Street, Sydney.
