Melissa Gaudron

Deputy Editor, Marie Claire

Mel Gaudron is the Deputy Editor of Marie Claire, Australia

Whether writing newspaper stories for publications from the Sunday Telegraph to The Australian, or running lifestyle sections at the Sydney Morning Herald, or editing a regional newspaper, or commissioning stories for glossy women’s magazines, Mel has always been passionate about the art of storytelling. That’s taking the seed of an idea and seeing it through to the final product on a print page, or a website, or on a Facebook feed.

As an original staff member of ninemsn, Mel has also been at the forefront of digital initiatives, playing a key role in the nascent birth of a new local industry. In 2000, she was the editorial Executive Producer of the official website for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, overseeing the entire development in conjunction with the US-based technology and design teams. (#Best.GamesEver.)

Through all her senior editing roles, Mel’s specialty lies in the collaborative: cajoling, encouraging and challenging a swirling mass of writers, designers, producers, editors, coders, clients and creatives and their accompanying band of opposing stakeholders. All for the sake of a creating a memorable story.

A UN peacekeeping role seems the most obvious next step.

Mel will speak about her experience as part of Creating Cut-Through Content: Media Minds Share Their Strategies, 3-5pm Friday June 3 at MCA, Sydney
